Have you noticed that several buildings in Windsor have Fire Insurance Plaques? These are metal signs marked with the emblem of the insurance company which were affixed to the front of insured buildings as a guide to the insurance company’s fire brigade. These identification marks were used in the eighteenth and nineteenth century in the days before municipal fire service were formed. The UK marks are called ‘Fire insurance plaques’.

You can find out all about them at at talk by Fergus Bain for the Windsor & Eton Society on Thursday 7th November at 3.00pm at Gardeners Hall, St Leonard’s Road.

The talk is part of the programme of The Windsor and Eton Society. Guests are welcome to meetings – there is no charge. Once you attend you might like to become a member. Full details are on the website – https://www.wesoc.org.uk
